Abstract:
The objective of the present study is to investigate the structural damage characteristics on MARK III type LNG carrier cargo containment system due to dropped object impacts. A series of experimental studies on a full scale structure model including primary barrier sheet (stainless steel), RPUF (reinforced poly-urethane foam) insulation panels and secondary barrier are undertaken under impacts arising from dropped objects such as pipe supports, bolts and nuts. A gun type impact machine is employed for the tests. The insights and conclusions developed from the present study will be useful for impact damage assessment and management on LNG cargo containment system due to dropped objects.
