ALPS/ULSAP Software for Advanced Ultimate Strength Design of Ship Stiffened Plate Structures
Author(s): J.K. Paik, Man Seung Lee, Bong Ju Kim, Sang Kon Lee, Owen F. Hughes and Phillpe Rigo
Abstract:The ALPS/ULSAP is a software which can quickly and accurately compute the ultimate strength of steel / aluminum grillages under combined loads taking into account the influence of fabrication related initial imperfections. This software is based on more sophisticated design methodology than most existing simplified theoretical approaches. This paper demonstrates the applicability and validity of ALPS/ULSAP by a comparison with the mechanical test results obtained by Smith (1976) using full scale warship deck and bottom welded grillages subject to either axial compression or combined axial compression and lateral pressure loads. Some important insights and conclusions developed are summarized.
